Finally

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Well after much time of dragging my feet on this, I finally got the putting it all together page done for basic HTML. Now to get my self up and running on CSS. I finally figured out that my theme (wp remix) was causing the issue. It's a very powerful theme and I have yet to even understand it. Anyhow, the theme was taking anything I put between pre tags and then ignoring the pre and converting the HTML examples into whatever they were supposed to represent. I have to figure out later how to go in and change this. Until then I'm just going to work with a different theme.

I hope you enjoyed the HTML lessons and you like the outcome of the final page if you have been sticking with me thus far. See you next time for some CSS.

Pre Tag Woes

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Today I finally got around to making my exemplar page only to discover that the < pre > tag seems to no longer work, in fact I had to put spaces between the lesser and greater than signs just to get it to show up. It's driving me insane. At first I thought it might be my new theme, then I tried writing the code into a web page and testing with no luck. Next I tried pulling it up in a different computer and browser with still no luck. I am not sure what is going on. Now, my old pages I made with the tag still render correctly, but if I go in and try to edit, it will start messing up. As long as I don't save, it's fine. If anyone out there reading this has any idea on what's wrong, I'd love to hear from you.

My First Month

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Today marks a month since I've started up My Beginning Web. In the first month we've covered a lot of basic HTML and you've seen some of the changes I've made to the site. I thought I'd share some of the site stats since inception back on 18 December of 2009:

- 25 posts
- 12 pages
- 25 comments (would be 27 if one didn't mysteriously disappear)
- and 162 visitors from all around the globe

There were more comments, but at least a dozen were straight up spam that had to go.

I hope all of you have enjoyed my site this past month and stick around for many more months to come. Take it easy and see you tomorrow.

Getting Back in the Game

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Hello again. It's been a while since my last post. I know, this is supposed to be a daily thing. I honestly kind of got stumped a bit on other things and lost my motivation here, but with some attention being paid to a better way to manage my time, I should be able to get back on track. If you have enjoyed my blog thus far and are looking to see more content, please do get on and comment. Also feel free to send me a little poke to help prod me along and stay on track here.

Now you may notice the site is changing some. I've picked up a new theme from wpremix.com and I'm learning how to play with this theme in order to create a better website for you all to come look at. I've also created a main page and separated the blog from that. I'm also considering things like video tutorials in addition to all the lessons. I have a thousand ideas going through my head but it will take time to get to them all.

At any rate, let me know what you all think of the new theme and give me some suggestions of what you would like to see. I'm also looking for some ideas for a new logo, unless you like my old one.

Now I didn't forget my page to showcase all we learned, but I have been going back and reviewing the basics by looking at a lot of material (like the Professor Teaches series by Individual Software that I recently picked up). I've personally learned a lot more, but in an effort to keep it simple, I'm going to go with things as they are and put that in an intermediate format.

On a side note, I've gotten back my coach status at Team Beachbody and I've created my own storefront page for all the cool products that I've personally used to drop 13 pounds in a matter of a couple of months. So check that out if you are interested in fitness and health products or just want to get in shape like I did.

Forms Finally

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Ok, so I finally got the forms lesson done. I want to go back and review my material before the final part of the basic HTML series to ensure I didn't miss anything. I already know I missed some things like the <blockquote>, <tt> and <big> tags. I'm glad though you all stuck with me through this learning curve of mine. That's the perils of being a beginning HTML learner, I have to learn it as I teach it, which helps reinforce it.

Well, take a look at the lesson and tell me what you think. Hopefully I didn't confuse you and it will make more sense once I get further into things like .php so that you can see the whole shebang. I personally feel learning forms was the most complicated part of HTML, but I'm glad I finally did and it will be worth it in the long run.

Hope you like the new theme. I got tired of the old one and wanted something that looked better. This theme is pretty clean and seems to fill the browser window and flow better. What do you think of it? What's your favorite theme? That's it for now, see you tomorrow in the blog and take care.
