Blog Rules

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

This blog's primary purpose is to discuss beginning web design and what I learned from it. I share this with you and hope that you will share your comments with me on what you got out of my postings and your experiences too.

When you make a post or comment, I ask only one thing: Follow the Golden Rule. This means, be courteous to not only myself, but to others. Do not use profanity or put other people down for their views. Be open minded and try to understand where someone is coming from. This is an environment to learn and grow our web design skills together. Also, no spam, neither I nor anyone else cares for it.

Days 10 and 11

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

I didn't do anything with the site yesterday. Instead I spent all day reading. I did test out my feed to my Facebook fan page from the blog and it does work. The only problem is, it goes to notes and does not replicate on the wall. I'll continue to tweak it. I also want to start working out my Twitter account and start incorporating that too.

As for today, this is where I start figuring out how to exemplify the things I learned and show you how to do them too. I did take off the ad on my main page upon the advice of a friend. His advice was to get myself more established first and just go out of pocket. I will go with this for the time being. What do you think? At what point would you suggest getting sponsorship on a blog or website?

Now I just want to re-emphasize that if you see anything about the site or the blog that you don't like, please leave a comment. Also feel free to register and post too if you have insight you wish to share on beginning web design.

Day 9

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Well, I am still at trying to get this to work with FB. I guess tenacity is key and hopefully one day it will pay off. Otherwise I'll just get smart on how to make my own plugin and make it work.

So not much to do today in lessons. I went and got a stack of Dummies series books (HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Blogging, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and much more).

Right now I'm working on the basics for HTML for my code log and just gotta get that finished. I really hope people will like the way I make my explanations. It's been a very lazy day for the most part since I finally accepted and started my Castle Age invite from my cousin. Made it to level 15.

See you tomorrow,

Day 8

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Well, I didn't do a lot on the site today. Did some work on my Esoteric Thought page though. I also did some review of my basic HTML skills. I decided to go ahead and start a page logging exactly what I did, how I did it and what it does. The page is located here if you are curious (nothing there yet, but I'll populate it tomorrow).

So, I went to a friend's house and had lots of food and some good wine. Talked a bit and now I'm home for a good night's rest. I think I will also start up a page tracking my exercise too and introduce everyone to what I did to lose 35 pounds last year in a matter of a few months and the program I'm using to lose that much again (since I quit and gained it all back). I'll let you know tomorrow as soon as I get it up and running. Until then, hope you all enjoyed your Christmas Day and got lots of presents.

Day 7

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Ok, this is just after midnight, so I will have another post later today for Day 8. However, Merry Christmas anyhow!

Ok, so today's adventures included me finally finding a DVD ripper that works so I can put my DVDs on my removable harddrive and not have to worry about them getting messed up anymore. I may even just donate them to make room. If you are ever curious go to slysoft.com and check out AnyDVD and CloneDVD. Now to find something for my VHS that works.

Well, as for learning, I did learn a little more in htmldog.com on using span, div, meta tags, more on tables, definition lists, javascript and bad tags. It took all of about five minutes.

Ok, you may see the Amazon.com ads now on my page. This is part of my learning process, but also to help me get back some of what I spend on the things I'm doing for this website. I think it's worthwhile because not only does it help me, but you can see some of the material I bought and used myself.

Ok, now I need your opinion:

Well, after talking with one of my friends, she stated how my site didn't really teach her anything. I'll be honest with you, that's why I reference where I learn from and there's so much out there, why bother to repeat what's already pretty good? A lot of people tell me they really enjoy my writing style and teaching style, I seem to be pretty good at explaining things too. So maybe I can present things in a way that will be more helpful to a beginner rather than just blogging about and showing off what I learned. This is something to chew on, so maybe I will take a break and go back and figure out how to demonstrate or explain in more detail what I did and how. What do you think?
