Day 6
Ok, I'll be editing this as I do more tonight. I spent most of my afternoon trying to install a VHS to DVD program so I can burn my videos to disc and go donate them or something and maybe make some room in my living room. I can see this as another on-going saga right along with putting posts on my FB page.
Anyhow, I found another site w3schools.com where you can get some basics with cool examples. I like the interactive part where you can see the code beside how it looks, edit and see what the changes will look like in real-time. It's ingenious. They also have certification, which I think I will go for. Check it out and let me know what you think.
So, in addition to my woes with video to disc conversion, I decided to try out NetBeans. The same co-worker that recommended I go to DreamHost suggested that when I get more familiar with HTML coding, that I use NetBeans' HTML editor. What I didn't realize was that you had to download the entire platform which will probably take me the next 10 years to explore and learn. It has everything from Java and PHP builders to things I have no idea how they work or what they do (like what the heck are Ruby and Python?). Anyhow, I went ahead and downloaded it and then realized I had to BUILD my own HTML editor... So, I followed the directions and to my surprise, it worked!!! Once I figured it out, it's pretty cool. Have any of you out there used NetBeans before? What was your experience with it?
I think that once I get my leg up on HTML, CSS and the like, I will switch to my editor in the future and code the somewhat lazy way. It may not be Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression, but it's free and 1000 times more powerful. I reckon I'll head back to HTML Dog and go through the intermediate tutorials now, then advanced so I can actually finish that site before moving on.
