Day 1

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Ok, so today is the first day as you can see by my intro blog. Well, here are things I’ve done and learned: After putting my first website on Go Daddy, I learned about Dreamhost, which is by far cheaper and you get more for your buck. So, I registered my new domain name after signing up with Dreamhost and picked one that seemed to fit what I’m up to, only to realize I misspelled the damn thing. So instead of mybeginningweb, I got mybegginingweb.com. So I checked and the proper spelling was available and I decided I’d rather spend the extra $10 to register the correct domain name than look like a real dork and stay with the old one.

So next up I decided to have add my blog software to track my progress with. I figured out that I didn’t have to go through a gazillion steps to set up WordPress on Dreamhost, I just had to go to my control panel and a few clicks later I was done. I’ll need to explore what some of the applications they have are and what they do.

So here are some questions for those following my blog: How many of you have started up a site from scratch and what lessons did you learn? If you haven’t ever done this, are you thinking to do it and what would your site be about?

Next up I will create a basic html page with the VERY basic structure and tags and explain exactly what I did and how it turned out. Stay tuned.

In the Beginning

By Justin | Filed in Web Design News

Welcome to My Beginning Web. I am working on getting experience as a blogger as well as website design and development. I started my first blog over at www.esoteric-thought.com back in late 2009, where I discuss my adventures in learning all things esoteric. That was nice and all, but I also wanted to learn web design to help spruce my site up and have a place to document and discuss what I learned about web design. That's how this site came into being.

This website is not just for blogging alone. I made this site for for anyone to join me in my adventures in learning web design (HTML, XTML, JavaScript, CSS and so forth) and some of the tools used to make web design easy (like WordPress). I will expect over time to be learning the basics and how to do everything from scratch. As I progress I will want to get my hands on some of the tools available and test those out and of course talk about them. I also am looking to incorporate some web design news and tips.

As I learn and grow and put my experiences here, I invite you to share your lessons as well and any helpful comments on what I discuss. I look forward to this experience and all the great things I will learn about it and I hope you learn something too (like avoiding my mistakes).
